The K-League, a professional soccer league, started concrete efforts to improve the quality of broadcasting by establishing a new broadcasting guideline in 2019. As new equipment was put in and officials with an understanding and affection for soccer relay participated in the production of the broadcast, the satisfaction of fans who ‘watched’ the K-League also increased year by year. Fans always want new information. Furthermore, if that information becomes an objective basis for explaining various situations that occur in a soccer game, it becomes a factor of greater interest to fans.

Recently, new content appeared on the K-League broadcast screen.

Information on the distance run, distance run per minute, maximum speed, HSR distance, number of sprints, and sprint distance was provided through the relay screen. Starting this year, SKYK, a professional K-League production company, has partnered with Fit Together, the official K-League Electronic Performance & Tracking System (EPTS) and soccer Science Company, and started using the data collected by Fit Together for K-League 해외축구중계 and content. In the meantime, fans have been accustomed to match event data such as occupancy, shot count, and pass success rate, so the newly introduced performance data is interesting.

In the field, wearable EPTS is used to collect various performance data of athletes.

Through this, the coaching staff can prevent injuries by adjusting the amount of training of the players, setting the per iodization, and reflecting it in the conditioning. For example, if you played a league game on Saturday, usually Sunday is a rest day and training resumes for the next game from Monday. Assuming that there are 5 days to prepare for the upcoming weekend, the coaching staff mentally designs the daily ‘training intensity’. On Monday, the intensity is raised to 30% of the maximum intensity and on Wednesday, the intensity is raised to 90% to increase the players’ breathing, and on Thursday and Friday, the intensity is gradually lowered. If this process has been carried out with the sense of the instructor, it is now possible to adjust the training intensity for each athlete through quantified data.

Dozens of indicators can be checked through the wearable EPTS.

It is the authority of each team staff to decide which indicators to reflect in which circumstances and which indicators to be weighted according to position and style. Studies have shown that English Premier League clubs use an average of 9 to 11 performance indicators to make decisions.

SKYK provides six indicators on the relay screen so that fans can familiarize themselves with performance data, which can feel a bit complicated. In this column, the definitions and meanings of each indicator are summarized.
